Topalov - Kamsky starts in a couple of hours
Former U.S. chess champion GM Gata Kamsky faces Bulgarian top player GM Veselin Topalov in an eight-game world challenge match in Sofia, starting today (15.00 EET). Two players will split a prize fund of $250,000. The winner qualifies to a world chess championship match against Viswanathan Anand of India later this year.
With his FIDE ELO rating of 2809 (best in the world), Topalov is a favourite in this match. However, Kamsky's tenacious style is perfect for match play, while Topalov seems better suited to tournaments. We are eager to see what will happen these days, but it seems to be interesting to all of us.
En.ChesFish.com will broadcast the match live.
On the other side, current World chess champion Anand returns to action Wednesday in an eight-player double round robin in Linares, Spain. He hasn't played since defending his title against Vladimir Kramnik of Russia in October.
Indian won Linares in 2007 and 2008.
