WCC Mexico 2007 - Participants - Morozevich and Svidler

The WCC Mexico 2007 will take place in Mexico City (Mexico), beginning 12th September.

Peter Svidler learned to play chess when he was six years old. He is four-time Russian champion (last in 2003). In 2001, he reached the semi-finals of the FIDE World Championship.
He is Chess960 World Champion for 3 years in a row (2003-2005).
He became shared second (together with Anand) in the FIDE World Chess Championship 2005 with 8.5 points out of 14 games. Currently his FIDE rating is 2735 (No. 12 on the July 2007). His best rating was 2765 in January 2006.

The Indian grandmaster Viswanathan Anand is considered as the main pretender for winning World Chess Championship Mexico 2007. Now, he is top rated player in the world (2792) and also he is one of only four chess players, which crossed 2800 elo rating (the others are Kasparov, Kramnik and Topalov).

NH Chess Tournament 2007 - Karjakin qualifies for Melody Amber 2008 (Monaco)

Sergei Karjakin qualified for the Amber 2008. The Ukrainian GM won the individual NH Chess Tournament 2007 in Amsterdam. Ivan Cheparinov from Bulgaria achieved second position, one point behind the leader. During the last game, Cheparinov demonstrated an iron will to win and sacrificed a piece for the initiative. It was a very beautiful battle, but after blunders from both sides the game was drawn.

Sergey Karjakin leads with 5,5 points after round 8 of NH Chess Tournament, followed by Jan Smeets with 5 pts, who won against Ljubomir Ljubojevic.

NH Chess Tournament 2007 - Karjakin and Cheparinov won again

Ivan Cheparinov and Sergei Karjakin won their games in the 7th round of the chess tournament in Amsterdam, organized by NH Hotels chain.

They won the previous round as well, and this way they are the major pretenders about the invitation for Melody Amber Blindfold and rapid chess tournament in Monaco on march year 2008. The invitation will receive the best one of the rising stars.

In the fifth round of the NH Chess Tournament the Experience team has demonstrated that the fight for victory is far from decided. One day before the rest day they posted a dashing 3Ѕ-1Ѕ win. Halfway through the event the Rising Stars are leading with the smallest of margins, 13-12. In the individual standings Artur Jussupow has taken the sole lead. In the fight for the ticket to Monaco, three juniors are leading the pack, Sergey Karjakin, Jan Smeets and Daniel Stellwagen. Round 6, with all Rising Stars behind the white pieces, will be played on Tuesday, August 28.

In the fourth round of the NH Chess Tournament the Rising Stars again increased their lead over the Experience team to a new total of 11Ѕ-8Ѕ. Dutch grandmaster Daniel Stellwagen took the lead in the individual standings with a win over Ljubomir Ljubojevic. Former leader Jan Smeets lost precious ground in the hunt for the coveted Monaco ticket when he completely ruined a winning position against Artur Jussupow. Tomorrow the Experience team will try to fight back when they have the white pieces in all games.

The participants are reigning world chess champion Vladimir Kramnik (2769), the rating leader in the world Viswanathan Anand (2792), Alexander Morozevich (2758), Peter Leko (2751), Levon Aronian (2750), Peter Svidler (2735), Boris Gelfand (2733), Alexander Grischuk (2726). The last four qualified in the Elista candidate matches May-June 2007. The tournament system is a double round-robin (each player plays every other with white and black).
