Magnus Carlsen won Biel / Bien 2007

The Norwegian grandmaster Magnus Carlsen won the tournament, a part of the international chess festival Biel/Bien 2007. The victory came after a tie-break against Alexander Onischuk, who represents the USA.

Both leaders harvested 5.5 points after the last round. How did it happen? Karlsen was a full point ahead, but he lost two times in a row. Onischuk and Radjabov took the lead, 3 rounds before the end. Carlsen demonstrated an iron will to win and he defeated Teymour Radjabov.

The tie-break consists of 5 games. The first four games were drawn (2 games with 15 minutes per move, and 2 games with 5 minutes per move). The 5-th (according to the rules of “Armagedon” which means that Onischuk had to win). Carlsen was with the black pieces and he won the game and with it – the tournament.
