WCC Mexico 2007 - Round 3 - A comeback by Morozevich, Anand sweats against Kramnik

Date 2007/9/16 | Topic: World Chess Championship Mexico 2007

MorozevichAlexander Morozevich won a full point after his first win in Mexico. He has defeated his countryman Peter Svidler in variant of Scotch Game. This was the only decisive game in round 3. View all games so far.

In the most expected game, Anand and Kramnik played Petroff's Defence. Position was equal but Anand tried to sharpen the game. This gave a better position for Kramnik, but in fact the position was draw all the time. They have 2 points each.

Alexander Grischuk played very aggressive against Aronian. Grischuk had not enough time (less than 4 minutes remaining for 10 moves) to calculate variants and a draw was agreed by three-fold repetition! He had a winning position - the winning move was 28...Qh6! Aronian disappoints so far. Many were expecting that he would be the most aggressive player in Mexico... He is last with only 1 point.

Gelfand played for a win against Leko. This was the longest game so far in Mexico. A draw was agreed at move 100.
