Sergey Karjakin won 2009's Corus Tournament

Sergey Karjakin won 2009's Corus Chess Tournament in Wijk aan Zee (Holland). Played with black pieces in the last round of the event he beat Leinier Perez Dominguez. Norvegian Magnus Carlsen lost his final.
Nigel Short who was close to the trophy in group-B event lost against the real winner USA-born Italian Fabiano Caruana.
Wesley So confirmed his victory in the C-Group by a quick draw.

Corus 2009: Round 3

GM Gata Kamsky who will play against Bulgarian GM Veselin Topalov in FIDE Pretender Match (Feb 2009, Sofia), won against Alexander Morozevitch in Corus 2009 Round 3. American join leaders with 2/3 points. In the other not finished on a draw game today Azery Tejmur Radjabov beat Vassily Ivanchuk.

Corus 2009 - Wijk aan Zee

Became traditional chess festival "Corus 2009" will be held in Wijk aan Zee (Holland) between 16th January and 1st February.
This year edition is not so strong as previous ones because of missing many leader GMs: The World Chess Champion Vishwanatan Anand (India), ex-World champions - Bulgarian Veselin Topalov (current highest FIDE ELO-rated player) and Vladimir Kramnik (Russia). But... Chess is not only 3 players - there are many new talents... Here their chance is!

The 8th International Chess Festival "Aeroflot Open" 2009 in Moscow

The 8th International Chess Festival "Aeroflot Open 2009" will be held in Moscow, Russia, from 16 February (arrival day) to 27 February 2009 (departure day).
This major event is open to chess players of most varied qualification: from unrated to having a very high rating. As before, the festival is held “under the wings” of our leading air company – Aeroflot. For the fourth year running the festival will take place in the major tourist complex “Izmailovo” - hotel “Gamma – Delta”, where the participants of the previous festivals so liked to stay and to play. This time the festival has the largest prize fund in the entire history of Aeroflot Open Festival - EUR 180 000 (taking into account the prizes for the World Blitz Qualification Tournament).
The festival consists of four tournaments - nine rounds swiss each.

Nanjing 2008: Topalov wins Pearl Spring 2008.

Pearl Spring 2008: Topalov and Xiangzhi are sharing the top

Pearl Spring Chess Tournament takes place in Nanjing, China, 11th-21st December 2008. After the first 6 rounds two players tied the leader position. They are current the highest FIDE ELO-ranked player - Bulgarian GM Veselin Topalov and the strongest Chinese GM Bu Xiangzhi. They played against each other today and finished on a draw. Bu may have missed an opportunity for more when he had a rook vs. Topalov's bishop. Next round Friday. Standings after round 7 and pairings round 8...

FIDE Grand Prix - Elista 2008: Gashimov and Radjabob lead after 5th round

The latest Grand Prix tournament this year takes place in Elista, Kalmikia, 13th-29th December 2008. There have been a number of withdrawals due to FIDE's change of regulations, like Michael Adams and Levon Aronian's denials, but the event is still a very reasonable category 19. There is play on Christmas day!

Chess Olympiad - Dresden 2008: Armenia won again

Armenia won against France at Chess Olympiad in Dresden by 3,5 to 0.5. The only draw in this match was between Etien Bacrot and Levon Aronian at table 1.
The strongest team of Germany lost against Israel.
The team of Russia won against USA by 2.5 to 1.5 points.
The highest ELO rated player - Veselin Topalov also won his game but it wasnt enought for Bulgaria to win against Belarus.
