Rapid Chess Tournament - Villarrobledo 2007

On 4-5 of August in Villarrobledo, Spain took place a strong rapid tournament, part of a large festival. 189 Participants, including Top GMs Topalov, Ivanchuk, Ponomariov, Shirov, Dreev and many other strong grandmasters played a 9 round Swiss.

Anand won Leon Chess Tournament (Spain)

Indian super grandmaster Viswanathan Anand who leads FIDE's July Top list won the Leon chess tournament by beating Vesselin Topalov 3-1 in the final.
In semi-finals Topalov won with 2.5-1.5 against gm Rustam Kasimdzhanov. A day before Anand beat Ukrainian gm Ruslan Ponomariov with 3-1.
Tournament took place in Guidad de Leon /Spain/ 7-9-th July 2007.

World Championship Candidate Matches

The World Candidates Matches will be held May 26th - June 14th, 2007 in Elista, Kalmykia. Each match will consist of six games, and, if necessary, tie-break rapid games. There will be a two rounds of matches producing four players who will play in the Mexico City tournament to decide the world champion alongside Vladimir Kramnik, Viswanathan Anand, Peter Svidler and Alexander Morozevich to produce an 8 player, 14 round double round robin event September 12th-30th 2007. "Deep Fritz" and "Deep Junior" will have a 6 game match alongside the event.

China leads the first World Women's Team Chess Championship 2007. The event is taking place from 19 to 30 May in Ekaterinburg (Russia), with women's teams from Russia, Ukraine, China, Armenia, Georgia, Netherlands, Poland, Vietnam, Germany and Botswana.

Bulgarian top grandmaster Veselin Topalov had lost his game against Shakhriyar Mamedyarov in 3-th round of M-Tel Masters 2007 chess tourney. They had played in Anti-Meran gambit.
Michael Adams beat European champion Liviu Dieter Nisipeanu in French Defence.
Indian grandmaster Krishnan Sasikiran, who played at this round with black pieces, beat American Gata Kamsky in Queen Gambit.

Individual European Chess Championships 2007

The 8th Individual European Chess Championships (EURO 2007) took place from April 2nd to 15th, 2007 in Dresden, Germany in the International Congress Center. The event was an 11 round Swiss.

Men:
Seven players tied for first. The top two on tiebreak, Vladislav Tkachiev of France and Emil Sutovsky of Israel, faced each other in a playoff, which Tkachiev won 2-0. He was duely crowned Eighth European Chess Champion. Second place is for Emil Sutovski, 3rd is Dmitry Jakovenko (RUS).

Women:
A round before the end of the tournament it was clear that nobody could catch Russian IM Tatiana Kosintseva, who led the field by two full points. Second is Antoaneta Stefanova (BUL), 3rd is Tatiana's sister - Nadezhda.
