The Mexico 2007 FIDE World Chess Championship will take place in Mexico City (Mexico), beginning 12th September.

Boris Gelfand is 39 years old and he is the oldest player in the World chess championship (WCC) 2007 in Mexico city. His FIDE rating is 2733.

Gelfand participated several times in candidates tournaments and matches. In the 1991-93 cycle, he qualified for the Candidates via the Interzonal chess tournament. He was knocked out in the second (quarter-final) round by Nigel Short.
In the FIDE World Chess Championship 1996 he won his first two Candidates matches, before being eliminated in the semi-final by Anatoly Karpov.

Gelfand finished in the top 10 in the FIDE World Cup 2005, which qualified him for the Candidates for the Mexico Chess Championship 2007. In May-June 2007 in FIDE Candidates matches 2007 in Elista (Kalmykia) he won his Candidates matches against Rustam Kasimdzhanov (in rapid tie-breaks) and Gata Kamsky, to qualify for the Mexico chess championship tournament 2007.

Alexander Grischuk is 23 years old. His FIDE ratng is 2726, number 14 in the World.
In the FIDE World Chess Championship 2004 Alexander Grischuk lost in the quarter finals by Rustam Kasimdzhanov.
He is also known as one of the best blitz chess players in the world. In 2006 he won the World Blitz Championship in Rishon Lezion (Israel) with 10.5 points out of 15 games, winning 10 games.

Grischuk finished in the top 10 in the 2005 FIDE World Cup, which qualified him for the 2007 Candidates Tournament in Elista. He won his matches against Vladimir Malakhov (+2-0=3) and Sergei Rublevsky (tied at +1-1=4, winning the rapid playoff +2-0=1), to advance to the 8 player FIDE World Chess Championship 2007 tournament in Mexico.
