The strongest chess tournament this year takes place in Mexican city of Morelia (15th-23rd February) and then in Spanish one - Linares (28th February - 7th March 2008).
At first round Indian Vishwanatan Anand (with blacks), Hungarian Peter Lйkу (white) and Bulgarian Veselin Topalov (white) won their games against Alexey Shirov, Teimur Radjabov and Levon Aronian. Norvegian Magnus Carlsen and Ukrainian Vassily Ivanchuk drawn.

Aeroflot Open 2008 takes place in Russian capital city of Moskow between 14th and 22nd of February 2008. After the firsts two round there are three palyers with full score points - GM Alexey Dreev (RUS), GM Ian Nepomniachtchi (RUS) and GM Sebastien Feller (FRA).

The Bulgarian Ivan Cheparinov has been forfeited against Short at Corus 2008 chess tournament in Wijk aan Zee.

Cheparinov refused to shake hands with Nigel Short and "lose the game immediately". More details in coming days...

After 2 days, the former world chess champions Kramnik and Topalov should shake hands to play against each other! Is it possible??? Very interesting days for chess... FIDE "rules" for handshaking and Short's reaction on VIDEO...
